What You Need to Know About Getting Waxed

Getting your first Brazilian will hurt. It is okay to be extremely nervous, but keep in mind that it will be  over sooner than you think. You can actually wax more areas of your body than you think such as your eyebrows, forehead, lip area, cheeks, chin, back, upper/lower legs, underarms, forearms, bikini line — even hair on the knuckles of fingers and toes. Here are our suggestions on everything you need to know before getting waxed:

The Prep

To assure an easy unwanted body hair removal

1. Let it grow. The ideal waxing length for hair is 1/4-inch (don't shave for 3-weeks).

2. Down a glass of wine, it works wonders. A few pre-wax sips can help you relax!

3. Make sure that your skin is moisturized but not greasy from oils or lotions.

4. Wear comfy clothing. Don’t worry, we have a layer to share.

5. Refrain from extended sun or tanning bed exposure 48 hours prior to waxing.

6. You should lightly exfoliate your skin several days before waxing

7. Clean up down there! On the day of your waxing, please make sure you thoroughly clean all of the area you will wax.

The Wax

Ditch your undies and assume the position

1. Practice your butterfly pose: feet together, knees apart.

2. Prepare for talking points. Small talk and deep breathing will help keep your on something else.

3. Know it'll hurt. It’s as painful as getting a tattoo! Wax regular = finer hair + smaller bulb.

4. It is like doing yoga. To go totally bare — give full access by bringing my knees to my chest. Yes, it is    as awkward as it sounds.

The Aftermath

Expect your area to be red, sore, and a little bumpy.

Avoid direct heat on the skin for at least 24-48hrs: tanning, extended sun exposure, jacuzzis, hot showers or baths, sauna and steam room use immediately following the service. This can be traumatizing & burn new skin. We do recommend that you use sun protection lotion for the 1st day after the waxing, to avoid hyper-pigmentation. Keep in mind that the dead skin layer has been removed with the hairs during waxing.

Before bed apply an exfoliant with a sea salt scrub and a mitten. You can always use a cloth or glove after the skin has calmed down and the new growth begins to penetrate. Most importantly we also want the pores to close, not open. Exfoliation can take anytime between 4 to 7 days.  You want your waxed areas to breathe so try to wear cotton underwear. Also be sure to stay away from scented lotions, deodorants, perfumes, alcohol-based products or colognes for 48 hours post waxing.

Feel free to ask your esthetician for recommendations on what is a great post-waxing home-care regimen and products to use calm and soothe your skin. We should not be seeing you again for 4 weeks.

Waxing Etiquette

  1. Keep it clean. Pack baby wipes, you’ll feel more courageous.

  2. Wear a tampon if you’re on your period. NO PADS! (Warning: It may hurt more since your skin is sensitive during your period.)

  3. Do a skin check. Healthy skin only! If you have an STD that causes sores, postpone by rescheduling your appointment until your issue is resolved.

BEFORE + AFTER

What You Need to Know About Getting yOUR EYELASH EXTENSIONS + LIFTS

Healthy Lashes make Your Eyes Look Sexy

Eyelash extension are single strands of curved lashes designed to replicate a natural eyelash. Each lash is done through an advanced technique that lengthens and thickens eyelashes. We use only professional quality extensions in faux mink and silk. You will feel the difference and others will notice.

FAQ’s

How will they look and feel?

When applied by our skilled technicians they will feel completely natural. Your lashes will also look much longer and fuller. You will not notice the difference between the extensions and the feel like your own eyelashes. There is no such thing as the proper amount, we will add as many as it takes or as few as needed to create the right look for you.

How long will my initial appointment take?

We take an artisan approach with each client. We take our time and do not rush your appointment. If it is your first time getting eyelash extensions, you can expect your first appointment to take approximately 75 to 120 minutes. We are not like most salons that count eyelashes, a full set is a full set.

How long will my Eyelash Extensions Last?

When properly cared for, your can expect your eyelash extensions to last for 4-6 weeks. Please see the Lash Extension aftercare section on how to properly take care of your eyelash extensions to maximize longevity and your eyelash health.

What is a fill and how often should I get one?

After the completion of the initial set of eyelash extensions you will receive instructions on how to care for them. Fills are done every 2 to 3 weeks. This is also dependent on your aftercare routine and how quickly your eyelashes grow. An eyelash extension fill take a shorter time. Expect to pay less for this process.

Why do I lose some of my eyelashes?

Due to the natural growth cycle, your eyelashes shed every 60 to 90 days as new ones grow in. We recommend getting a fill every two to four weeks to fill in lashes on the new growth.

Will extensions damage my eyelashes?

Yes and no. Yes, your lashes can be damaged if you go to someone who was not properly trained and uses cheap products. No, not if extensions are properly applied by a certified, trained technician who uses quality products. Our eyelash extension application techniques and innovative aftercare ensures the health of your lashes.

A friend of mine is allergic to the products, is this common?

From time to time a true allergic reactions do happen, but they are rare. If you develop an allergic reaction you may still wear extensions. We recommend that you make some changes to the aftercare process. What is more common than an allergic reaction is eye infection due to improperly washing and caring for your lashes. The most common causes of infections are not waiting 24 to 48 hours to wash lashes. Not washing your eyelashes the entire time you wear them is the most common reason wearers lose their lashes prematurely.

Can I use eyelash growth products with my extensions?

Lash growth products that contain steroids will change the composition of your lashes, accelerating your eyelash shedding cycle. Therefore we do not recommend and cannot guarantee the results. Natural lash growth products that contain peptides are wonderful. These products will not have adverse effect on the longevity of your extensions.

Will I still need to use mascara?

No, you will not need to use mascara with your lash extensions. If there are nights that you want the extra dramatic look then you can use a water-based mascara. See the aftercare section below for tips on using mascara.

AfterCare

Now that you have Eyelash Extensions, here are a few tips on how to maintain them.

  • Do not wash or get your eyelashes wet for the first 24 to 48 hours.

  • Do not use a spa, sauna or pool for the first 24 hours. The extensions need that amount of time to properly bond.

  • Avoid strong heat such as ovens & bbq’s.

  • Avoid pulling or rubbing your eyes.

  • Clean extensions with an oil-free cleanser ever day after the first 24 to 48 hours.

  • Oil-based products can and will break down the eyelash extension adhesive.

  • Only use extension-safe mascara.

  • Avoid oil-based & waterproof mascaras and makeup remover.

  • Do not use eyelash curlers with your extensions.

  • If your eyelashes are tangled or crossed over, use a Spoolie to gently brush them straight.

  • Proper hygiene is very important the health of your lashes. Please keep lashes clean by washing regularly.

  • After showering avoid rubbing lashes as it best to blot them with a towel and let them air dry.

  • It is safe to dry your lashes by using a hair dryer on the cool setting and blowing them dry from the bottom up. This makes them curlier and fluffy.

  • Use care when applying facial and eye creams to avoid the lash line.

We recommend that you book a fill appointment every 2 to 3 weeks to maintain your new eyelash extensions. FYI, Lash lifts should last up to 8 weeks!
